Vitamin B5, also known as Pantothenic acid is a water-soluble vitamin that occurs naturally in all the living cells in the body. The B5 vitamin plays a significant role in body-metabolism and absorption of nutrients.

D calcium pantothenate is an artificial form of vitamin B5 that is manufactured from pantothenic acid. T usually comes in the form of supplement-pills and can be taken for a variety of conditions. Doctors often prescribe D calcium pantothenate as a cure for morning sickness, acne and pains related to rheumatoid arthritis.

There are no notable side-effects of pantothenic acid or its derivatives. Over-consumption of one kind of vitamin B might result in the imbalance of the other vitamin Bs in the body. Excessive consumption of vitamin B5 can hamper the effectiveness of certain antibiotics like tetracycline and of Alzheimer's medication. Even though it is practically harmless, it is advised to consult a doctor when thinking of taking B5 aggressively.
