Tech Review: Fitbit Charge 3. It's Better. Much Better. A Great Last-Minute Christmas Gift.
December 17, 2018

4.5/5 Stars
It's been years since the release of the last charge series from Fitbit. Fitbit Charge 2 was released back in 2016, September. While Fitbit Charge 2 brought with itself an ecosystem of features and applications, Fitbit Charge 3 brings to the table the next level of innovation and it's a solid upgrade.

It was in August 2018, that Fitbit released the third edition of its Charge series. The Fitbit Charge 3 offers tracking of exercises, sleep and heart rate. It is ergonomically superior to the previous versions and comes with a slimmer look and larger display. Waterproofing and GPS are included in this version. The Fitbit charge three also comes in different bands depending upon the version that is chosen.

Design and Display of Fitbit Charge 3

Just like its predecessor, the Fitbit Charge 3 has a similar rectangular display although it's bigger in size. The design has been tweaked at just the right locations to give it a better more streamlined appearance and feel. One of the first things that users are going to notice about the Fitbit Charge 3 is that it is thinner and lighter on the wrists. The stainless steel in Fitbit Charge 2 has been replaced with Aluminum in this latest design and the device also appears to take up less room on the wrists. The incorporation of aluminum in the design has led to a weight reduction of around 20% and the difference is palpable.

Fitbit Charge 3 Buttons and Sensors

There are no press buttons on the Charge 3 and all the functionalities and interactions are accessed through the touchscreen. There is only one button provided on the left side of the device which is used to turn the screen on and off. This button gives off a tactile vibration when its operated to let the user know that it's working. There is a particular way of tapping and using the touchscreen which can take a bit of getting used to. However, once the simple knack of the touchscreen has been mastered, it provides a quick and intuitive display and host of apps.

The PurePulse heart monitor that was present in Charge 2 as well has been augmented with the SpO2 pulse oximetry sensor making the entire appearance of the device rounder and much more comfortable on the wrists. The metal on the strap has been replaced by an eject and push in button which can be easily used to tighten it on the wrists.
